Notes
a slow Greek processional, bittersweet.
Stephan says of his musical version of this dance:
ěThis slow and haunting Greek processional Invites us to reflect
back on the past and our youth.
In our musical arrangement we have treated the dance like a journey
through Life with both bitterness and sweetness recalled, ending in a calm
acceptance of the experience.î
the count is slow-quick-quick-slow-slow
The steps are small, with a sense of stature and self esteem, so
steps are purposeful and body held upright.
On step 7 tilt the body slightly back.
Words in English
When I was a young man of twelve
they took me as a Janissary to foreign lands.
To learn the bow and war.
Neither the bow did I learn nor war.
Only did I learn of love of [?].
I pressed iron and drew water
