Notes
The pause of emptiness is the essence of the dance.
ìGod gives me Good Fortune, Love, Bread in a Hot Oven,
Wheat in my empty bushel,
and a hand in my empty hand...
even when I do not ask!î
.
Emptiness is at the essence of the teachings of the Inner Dance.
Indeed, emptiness is at essence of all we do.
At Touchstone when we make flower bouquets for sale at market,
I always instruct the apprentices to not crunch the flowers tightly together,
but rather to leave an emptiness between them. An open space.
It is this open space which allows the flowers to have their individual
form, to show their beauty. Emptiness defines form.
Whenever we at Touchstone go 'wildcrafting' (walking in the woods
and fields looking for wild medicinal and edible herbs), I instruct the
apprentices to keep an empty eye. If the eye is full of the looking
for one specific plant ... yarrow, for instance ... then the eye may well
not perceive any number of wonderful medicinal herbs that we pass by.
It will be looking for the yarrow and will miss the tender beauty and healing
properties of the wild gentian.
.
And so it is with conversations and with relationships. If
we enter a conversation or a relationship with a fixed objective, with
something we must express, our ears, minds and hearts will be so
full of our objective that we may well easily miss the truth, heart and
beauty of the person with whom we are talking or with whom we are in relationship.
.
And what of our relationship with Spirit? Are we so full
of our definition of who and what Spirit is that we will forever be blind
to the Presence of Spirit trying to nurture and to lead us in every living
moment?
Words in English
Let God give luck,
love, hot ovens,
wheat into my empty barns,
a handshake into my orphaned hand,
flames into my lantern
so that I don't go to bed early.
He should send an answer to my question
so that I don't lose my faith.
Let God give light,
life instead of cemeteries--
I'm ashamed to ask
so give without asking.
Words in Native Tongue
Adjon az Isten szerencset,
szerelmet, forro kemencet
ures vekamba gabonat,

hogy hitem azejjel ne duljon,
/adjon az Isten fenyeket,
temetok helyett eletet---
