Notes
Medieval Spanish music (steps adapted from Bojarka)
The title means ìOn Holy Groundî
When the music slows and the chant begins,
hold hands in the circle and drink in the listening
.
This is an excellent dance to use when facilitating a circle and about to move into a new depth. Very often I will dance in one area, preparing the emotional base to the event , and then when the time is right, I will teach this dance (which is fluid and quite simple) and dance in a long line into another area. In this new area (room or lawn or grove in a wood), the arrow is released directly at the target of the soul.
.
How can I love song be on holy ground some may ask. When I was a lad of about twelve my mother took me aside and said, ìDo you know the most holy prayer God gave to humans?î I listened and waited. she looked truly in my eyes and said. ìIt is when a woman and a man make love.î
.
The sweet and haunting sound of this song is so moving and deep, that often I will not mention a word of the translation. I will simply teach the very simple dance and then, just after I turn on the music, join the circle and say, '... on holy ground ...'
.
Words in English
In Vigo on holy ground
a body fair danced round and round,
ah, in love am I.
In Vigo in this holy place
danced so slim and full of grace
ah, in love am I.
danced so slim and full of grace
that nevar had looked upon loveís face
ah, in love am I.
Danced a fair body round and round
that never had a lover found
ah, in love am I.
That never had a lover found
and danced there on holy ground
ah, in love am I.
That never had looked upon loveís face
and dances in this holy place
ah, in love am I.
