Notes
The myth of the Fisher King is best known from the Arthurian and
Grail Legends, though it is much older and more broad. This is a
legend whose wisdom would save today's evolving world much pain, if it
were understood and that wisdom adhered to. The Sacred King (The
Fisher King) is united with the Land. The land in this sense means
the Life of the Land and the Life of the Community. If the king is
in virtue (in good health) and is caring for the garden, then the Land
and the People, too, thrive. If the king is untrue or forgets the
care of the garden, his union with the Land, then the Land and the People
suffer.
Today's 'kings' are the colonialist feudal lords we call corporate
executives. The International Corporations are not capitalist or
socialists. Their economic structure is feudal and colonialist.
As long as the international corporations (which are today's real nations)
continue to be separate from the land and the people, continue to uproot
their businesses as soon as the local resources and people are no longer
'profitable', the Land and the People will continue to sink into a financial,
physical and moral ruin. Imagine what the world would be like if
these people actually took on their roles as sacred kings? If they
actually were true capitalists (or socialists) rather than colonial war
lords battling each other over turf that - to them - means only profit
(and has nothing to do with the capitalist's foundation ideals
of the weave of community. Capitalism has its roots in such organizations
as The Knight Templar and other such Knightly Leagues which came into being
in the 1200's)...
.
But it is much more difficult and it takes a deeper intelligence
and moral fiber to be a sacred king than it is to be a marauding colonialist
war lord. And most of our present world leaders are much more concerned
with self-power than with The Life of The Land and The Wholeness of The
People.
.
Until this changes, which may take centuries, the People of the
Earth and the Earth Herself will continue to be disjointed and to suffer.
And we will continue to lament the return of The Fisher King.
