Notes
A dance of personal freedom. This dance portrays the inner
steps to freedom a woman often undergoes as she begins to break the bonds
of the now collapsing patriarchal cultures. The dance, of course,
also carries much wisdom for the man who is breaking free of the old ways
as well.
.
Dances that go well with the theme presented by this dance are
Old Woman, The MidWives
Dance, Ancient Mother, Rainbow
Woman, Naw Ruz, The Burning
Times,
to mention a few in the collection.
.
In this dance the indications of the movements when we use our
arms on the inward movements are 1) hesitation 2) an attempt at breaking
free from the chains that bind us (especially as women) 3) breaking free!
4) hands over heart ... honoring and caring for the self 5) once nurtured,
allowing our energy to care for the needs of the other.
One possible interpretation of this dance could be: The first eight
steps are ;like a moving pattern in which we are used to walking, what
seems to be natural and expected. For example --- women take care
of everything. In the second part we awake and we realize this;
we step into the center, feel like prisoners and need to break free, but
we are not strong enough yet and step back; then we try it again
and pray (raising arms), but step back again. The third time we take
all our courage, force ands strength and bring it strongly forward into
the centre and ... break free, fall around, circle out and arrive finally
in ourselves. Then when we are at that place deep within, there where
we nourish first ourselves, then we are able to nourish others.

Words in English
A song to you, sister, mother, friend, grandmother
To all of you who have borne the burdens
When others have failed
To you who have given and given
Without asking anything in return
Know that life itself is on our side
It gives the strength to rise up anew.
Know that you are a flower
Know that you are a bird
Fly! ...
