Notes
This is one of the dances that, along with etymology, an appreciation
of ancient art (especially statues and vase art),
and a lifelong deepening in the way of the Myth,
led me towards the realization of the integration and depth of
the ancient temple dances (dating back into the forth millennium BC, at
least). It led me as well to a realization of the union between the
ancient pre-vedic temples of India and the temples and cultures of North
Africa, the Middle east and Europe.
The dancer holds a snake in each hand. The slight twist of the
foot may ignite a slight spark at the base of the spine, the kundalini.
The dance thus would be a part of the ìtantricî or ìfull life forceî lifestyle
that was cultivated in the ancient temples.
This is a central theme in the way I (Shaker) facilitate the dance.
