This is the original version.
The song is a loving lament of a mother holding her child and contemplating
upon the sorrows as well as the joys that Life will bring to us all.
The circle dance community has created the myth that this dance
was danced by a circle of women while the birth was occurring. While
it is a deeply moving myth, it is untrue. Still, I hesitate to say
this in the circles I facilitate because the effect that the myth has upon
the people is quite profoundly healing and opening. This is an instance
(of which the sages know so well) where the false which has Life in the
Heart has more truth than the truth which is only a static and Lifeless
fact.
