Notes
This dance is probably the one danced by the women and children
of Souli Greece, who danced off the edge of a cliff rather then be captured
by the Turks.
.
Even though it is named after this Peloponessus city, famous for
its olives' production, Kalamatianos is not from Kalamata. It was named
after the song "Mandili Kalamatiano" (meaning handkerchief from Kalamata).
Kalamata was once famous for its silk handkerchiefs that had beautiful
embroidery original to the Peloponnese peninsula.
