Notes
The title refers either to ìa plainswoman of Thessalyî or a generic
word for a minority ethnic group. translated literally, it means black
coat, but the Karagounes don't wear black coats and no one is sure why
the name is applied to them.
Although many dance groups in America do this as a women's dance,
it is actually a mixed dance.
(In the more common version of the song, the man sees Karagouna
at the window and sings passionately of his desire for her. In this version,
things have gone awry!)
Traditionally danced by women, who used the delicacy of the footwork
to enjoy their unique feminine attributes (and perhaps show then off)
