Notes
Based on a dance from an ancient Greek Vase found near Delphi,
we no longer know who was the woman archeologist who reconstructed this
dance.
Delphi was the center of much of the ancient Greek (and pre Hellenic)
culture and mystery rites.
It is likely that this dance or a close form of it hearkens millennia
back into time. Back to when the Horae were not whores, but true women
of power (original meaning of ëvirginí) who kept the the Union of Sacred
Time and Sacred Place in an ever ongoing never ending dance at the temple
centers.See the Glossary
Here, in the Dance, the Horae (from whom we get the words for ëhourí
and the ëhoraí or ëoroí, the various dances of the old world, and the word
for ëwhore) became in union with the Essence and, being the Goddess, went
to heal whomsoever needed again to drink of the mother earth ... be it
in herbs or in counseling or in social matters or in matters of the sensual.
This is the dance with which most associate Shakerís teaching of
the LongDance Form.
This is the dance which I personally tend to use when attempting
to
cultivate within those present the deepest inner Nature of the
Dance
The movements of the dance deepen as one participates in them.
There are
twelve steps in all---three walking forward, three walking in the
same
direction but backwards and bowing slightly, three walking towards
the center
hearts lifted, three walking backwards out into the circle again.
The arms
are in a constant and fluid motion, somewhat like the tide of time,
ebbing
and flowing. Or like the moon, ever in a flow of change.
During the first three steps the inner intent is to walk into our
destiny,
fully accepting the fire of our dharma. Here the arms rise into
a "W hold "
(arms bent at the elbows, hands at shoulder or heart level). The
breath is
inhaling. While the chest is towards the center of the circle,
the face
faces the direction of one's movement.
During the second set of three steps the inner intent is to honor
the
ancient ones known and unknown, the ones who have come before us
and have
held, each in their simple way, the light of the heart, the candle
in tender
and transient fingers. Here we turn and walk backwards, bowing
slightly. The
breath is exhaling.
During the third set of three steps we turn to face the center
of the circle
and walk inwards. The inner intent is to enter the Inner Sanctuary.
Beyond
Time. To stand in the Divine Presence. A circle of angelic beings.
The arms
rise up above the crown, heart open and receptive. The breath,
soft, is
inhaling.
During the forth set of three steps we simply walk backwards and
return to
the circle. The inner intent is to return to our circle of community,
to our
embodiment in Time. The natural inclination is to bow slightly
during this
movement, but this tendency is to be gently resisted Like Hallaj
who was
many centuries ago cruelly executed for uttering the phrase, "I
am the
Divine Light", we are emerging from the Inner Sanctuary as the
Divine One we
truly are. If we bow, we bow only to the Sacred Inner Light, the
Heart of
Living Compassion, who is our own being. The breath is softly exhaling,
allowing our inner blessings,
* baraka to flow into the realm.
