Nigun Atik

Associations---Israel Couples Wedding
Tapes Found On---DC I DC Little
Origin---Israel
Choreographer---adaptation
Notes
originally choreographed by Rivka Sturman.
Nigun Atik means ìAncient Melodyî. Actually, the Nigunim were wordless songs. The theory being that only the words beyond the concepts of our mind could unite with the heart of God in prayer. Today Nigun Atik is danced often at Israeli weddings, the wedding couple at the center of the circle while the family and community dance around them, invoking blessings upon the union.
The dance may also be seen as a prayer to Heaven and to earth.
The hand hold is different: Place the L hand palm upward on your own left shoulder---
Place your R hand palm down on the left hand of the person in front of you.

Words in English
We will return again to an ancient melody
and the song will linger on.
When we raise our glasses together
our eyes and hearts will be bright.
How good are our tents
because thereís dancing there.
How good are our tents,
still we return to an ancient melody.
