In the notes to the dance, Moon Raven has commented that this dance
should be danced ìbetween Mabon (fall equinox) and Yule (winter
solstice).
This is the time when the stags gathered in the forest
and the time when the horned god was honored in the old religion.
In many ancient cultures the stag was the protector of the wild
and the mediator between the humans and forest creatures.
Imitating animals in dance is one of the earliest forms of
sympathetic magic.î
