Notes
June Watts (in The Great Circle) says of this dance ́White Bird was the first - it must have been around 1984. I was deeply affected by Satish Kumar, his peace prayer and vision of threefold peace - first within and with oneself, then with the 'other', and then with the Earth and cosmos. So White Bird places us first at the center of an equal-armed cross and with the steps we honor each of these directions, looking at each, at all the strands of our lives from the peace of the center. Everything is reconciled in this place of stillness and only then can we move out and into the world with the three steps of the threefold peace, leading with the left foot each time so moving from our non-rational, intuitive center. We then come to a close and center again, rising and falling on the heels as we settle into a moment of containment and inner peace. The steps describe first the form of a bird - the Dove of peace - with wings outstretched, with the traveling steps the bird flies, then settles again as if alighting on a branch. ́
The Dove in ancient times was the sacred bird of the Mother Goddess,
Words in English
I want them to bury me
Like my ancestors
In the dark and cool belly
Of an earthenware pot.
When life loses itself
Behind a curtain of years
Loves and disenchantments
Will live forever
